Geologist

Conducts geologic studies or investigations on a variety of projects where minerals and geology activities have an effect on development and/or management of forest resources. Examines forest land and makes assessment of geologic potential. Inspects mineral operations for compliance with operating plans. Monitors mineral leasing activities on National Forest system lands. Provides input to Forest Service land management planning efforts. Participates in validity examinations to determine and make recommendations about the lack of a mineral discovery or reaffirm that a mineral discovery has been made. Prepares reports of findings including the collection and analysis or review of data. You must possess the Basic Requirements identified below to be considered eligible for this position. Bachelor's Degree:
physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours in physics. Calculus and physics, as described above, are requirements for all grade levels. -OR In addition to the basic requirements, the following additional education and/or experience are qualifying. ----- GS-09:
(1) One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as:
Served as an advanced trainee specializing in geology and performed common qualitative and quantitative analysis of soil and rock samples; assisted in carrying out a range of analytical/scientific geological assignments that included researching and analyzing data, issues, and information that supported geological programs/studies; and/or assisted in monitoring mineral leasing activities, including oil and gas leasing, lease exploration, and operating mining. -OR Successful completion of 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or masters or equivalent graduate degree, courses are to be related to the position to be filled. -OR A combination of education and experience listed above. The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
