License Requirement:
The minimum qualifications for this position require a valid license to practice as a Civil Engineer in the State of California.
What You'll Do:
The current opening is a full-time position with benefits in the Land Use Division of the Department of Public Works.
This position is a hands-on leadership position in the Land Development Projects Section.
The duties of the position are varied and include facilitating private development projects, meeting with the public and answering questions, preparing written correspondence, overseeing technical staff, keeping projects on track and within budget, preparing agenda items for presentation to the Board of Supervisors, plan checking, inspecting projects under construction, and attending Planning Commission and Board of Supervisor meetings.

The Department is seeking an energetic candidate with excellent oral and written communication skills.
This is a people person job that requires working closely with the public, staff, and outside agencies.
and four years of increasingly responsible experience.
Knowledge of budgeting, supervision, and administration are essential.
The ideal candidate would have strong computer skills and three to five years of experience after licensure.
Knowledge of tentative map approval process, plan checking subdivision improvement plans, plan checking drainage reports, and plan checking traffic studies is desirable.
An engaging and active leadership style that positively impacts and influences the work environment is essential in this position.
The ideal candidate will develop and maintain positive relationships with various County Departments as well as regional, state, and federal partners, while enhancing communications and work relationships throughout the Department and overall County operations.
The working schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday, 8:
00 AM to 5:
00 PM; however overtime hours and/or shifting your working schedule may be needed for work on certain projects.
Planning Commission meetings are typically held on the first and third Thursdays from 6:
00 PM to 9:
30 PM in the Board of Supervisors Chambers in the County Courthouse.
Under general supervision, performs highly complex professional engineering work; supervises a work unit of professional and technical staff; performs related work as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS This is the first supervisory level class in this series, with responsibility for the design or construction section of the Engineering Division or the land use function of the Real Property Division.
Incumbents function independently within guidelines, and represent the department in meetings with groups and individuals.
Incumbents in this class are certified as Professional Engineers by the State of California.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
